Burns can often be repaired and many cannot. Basically, leather is skin and skin fries in intense heat. With some work and leather products I have been able to carefully stretch the leather back into near normal condition. If the burn is so stiff that it cracked the chaps are done for. Cracked or burned leather weakens the hide resulting in a less than strong piece of leather.
Fading or discoloration can be an easy fix but a complete redye of a coat or jacket is something that not only I don’t do but can rarely be done. This is due in part to how the leather soaks in oils and dirt from normal wear. My buddies at Fox Creek Leather offer a great product called “Doc Bailey’s Leather Black” which I use myself on chaps, jackets, vests, saddlebags etc. This product will dye and condition leather back to it’s true black color.
Road rash results can be handled nicely in many cases. I cannot resurface the leather once the top grain has been broken but I have some “secret” ways of hiding a lot of road rash on leather.
Alterations aside of chaps, must be sent to me to look at first. I shy away from jackets in that patterns are “gauged” according to size all over the garment, so merely taking in a side or a nip and tuck there won’t make the jacket fit you nicely, it might just seem smaller. Chaps are easy with meausrements taken by you via my emailed instructions.
Saddlebag repairs can be done for old school style bags only, not the large luggage style bags.
Cleaning garments is not to be confused with a professional leather dry cleaning service. I take the time to clean the jacket shell, handwash the lining, mend pockets as needed, check snaps etc.
If I cannot do work on your item I will do my best to refer you to someone who will and will also give you ideas for tracking them down in your area. All items sent to me to look at must be accompanied by return postage plus a $7 repackaging charge. Contact me for further information on leather services.
